The South Coast Metro is a district comprising Santa Ana and Costa Mesa in Orange County, California. From the South Coast Plaza Mall, a dense mix of residential, office, and retail projects spreads out. It is part of the South Coast Plaza–John Wayne Airport edge city, which is a concentration of commerce, shopping, and entertainment located outside of a traditional central business area. John Wayne Airport, the Irvine Business Complex (IBC), The District and The Market Place shopping complexes, and the University of California, Irvine campus comprise the area of the edge city. This more inclusive definition includes Newport Beach, Irvine, and Tustin.

History
C. J. Segerstrom and Sons, a commercial property and retail management firm founded in 1898, was instrumental in Orange County, California’s commercial development. As managing partner of the family-owned business, Henry Segerstrom developed the agrarian region into a vibrant, international attraction. Henry T. Segerstrom and his cousin Hal T. Segerstrom, Jr. constructed South Coast Plaza in one of the family’s lima bean fields in Orange County’s rapidly expanding agricultural region in March 1967. Developer Skyline OC constructed two residential high-rise towers named Skyline at Macarthur Place in the northeast area of South Coast Metro in 2016. The 25-story towers were advertised as luxury condominiums and became the tallest structures in Orange County.

South Coast Metro’s general limits consist of:
Segerstrom Avenue to the north San Diego Freeway to the south (I-405)
Fairview Road to the west and the Costa Mesa Freeway to the east (SR 55)
South Coast Metro is commonly used in real estate ads, but it is not recognized as a distinct territory by the USPS or other government agencies. South Coast Metro does not have its own ZIP code, however, there is a sign for the region on the southbound Costa Mesa Freeway at MacArthur Boulevard.
