About Costa Mesa, CA

Just a mile from the Pacific Coast in the heart of Orange County is the City of Costa Mesa, one of California’s most vibrant cities. Since its incorporation in 1953, Costa Mesa has evolved from a semi-rural farming community to a city with robust local economy that houses a population of approximately 110,000. The City’s location provides easy access to several major attractions in Southern California, including beaches, mountain areas, high and low deserts, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Palm Springs and Los Angeles.

Economy

The City’s economy relies heavily on retail and services. It is home to South Coast Plaza, one of the nation’s largest shopping centers. The volume of sales generated by the Plaza places it among the highest volume regional shopping centers in the nation.

The City is also home to a couple of electronics, pharmaceuticals and plastics firms. The largest employer in the City is the business services company Experian. Some of the other business headquartered in Costa Mesa include: Ceradyne, El Pollo Loco, Emulex, Hurley, RVCA, Toyota Racing Development, the Trinity Broadcasting Network, Vans, and Volcom.

Arts and Culture

Nicknamed as the “City of the Arts”, Costa Mesa has a vibrant performing arts scene. It also offers some of the best shopping and dining facilities in Orange County. The City most definitely stands out for its shopping destinations. Visitors can enjoy shopping for luxury brands at South Coast Plaza which offers the highest concentration of luxury brands in the U.S.

Costa Mesa is also home to The LAB and The CAMP, two counter-culture retail venues which are solely focused on local artisans and a fitness-based lifestyle. The Triangle, on the other hand, is the City’s family entertainment complex which offers a variety of restaurants, a movie theater and a bowling alley.

Costa Mesa has also earned recognition as a bona fide foodie destination with cuisine ranging from Japanese hotspots to Spanish tapas to Moroccan cuisine. The City’s diverse dining scene has earned the City an award from Rand/McNally and USA Today as being the best small town for restaurants west of the Mississippi River. With restaurants receiving remarkable praises from the LA Times, TripAdvisor, Gayot and Food & Wine Magazine, Costa Mesa is home to Michelin-starred chef Carlos Salgado, with his innovative Mexican restaurant Taco María. Vaca is the Spanish tapas restaurant by Amar Santana, runner-up of season 13 on Bravo TV’s “Top Chef.” A branch of Din Tai Fung, a Michelin-starred Shanghai dumpling restaurant, is also located in Costa Mesa.
