Wisdom Teeth Removal in Orange County

Most patients develop their wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, in their late teens or early twenties. If a wisdom tooth is impacted or develops incorrectly, it may need to be removed in order to protect the integrity of the neighboring teeth. In some cases, when a wisdom tooth is not removed, patients can experience dental pain, swelling, or other dental health issues. Extracting a wisdom tooth and help alleviate your symptoms and restore balance to your smile.

Types of Extractions

In many cases, tooth extraction can be explained in two categories:

  • Simple extractions: During a simple tooth extraction, a dentist can loosen and remove a tooth that is visible from the gumline. With simple tooth extraction, the tooth is typically removed in one piece.
  • Surgical extractions: A surgical extraction is performed when a tooth is not completely visible from the gum line. In this case, surgical removal is deemed necessary. A small incision is made in the gums, and the tooth may need to be removed in fragments. In some cases, the bone surrounding the tooth needs to be cut into to access the tooth.

What To Expect During A Tooth Extraction

We will take x-rays and images of your teeth and jaw to determine which type of extraction is needed. We will also review your medical history, dental history, and any medications you are taking at the time of your appointment.

For patients who require wisdom teeth removal, you may need to undergo a panoramic x-ray, which captures a complete image of all of your teeth. It will allow our team to assess the condition of your wisdom teeth and determine how your wisdom teeth need to be removed.

At Dentistry @ Its Finest, the comfort of our patients is important to us. We make every effort to ensure our patients are relaxed and comfortable throughout all phases of their dental care.  In most cases, a simple extraction is performed with a local anesthetic. However, patients may be given another form of sedation to help them relax during their procedure. For a surgical extraction, a local anesthetic is administered to the patient via a vein or intravenous injection. While some patients may feel pressure during their extraction, they should not feel any pain or discomfort.

It is important to coordinate a ride home after your extraction appointment, as you can not operate a vehicle after your tooth extraction. Also, be sure to follow your aftercare instructions to avoid any oral complications.
