Caring for Your Teeth Bridges
Dental Bridges are securely attached to your teeth; thus there’s a slight chance that food particles may get trapped in between the gums and bridge. Therefore, you need to take extra care for the bridges (traditional, implant-supported, Maryland, Cantilever) to ensure their longevity and clinical success. . We advise our patients to take care of their bridges by following these procedures:
Strict Oral Hygiene Care – If you fail to maintain your oral hygiene it may result in periodontal disease. Because of that, the abutment teeth that support the bridge may start to hurt and become loose because of bone resorption. This will ultimately cause failure to the treatment and prosthesis. Regular oral hygiene measures will include the following:
- Brushing Your Teeth – Brush your teeth at least twice a day. This will ensure that food and bacteria underneath the bridges are completely removed. In most cases, brushing the teeth can get in between the bridge and gums and completely clean the area. You can also use an inter dental toothbrush as these are specifically designed for cleaning around dental bridges.
- Flossing – Flossing once a day can help maintain optimal oral hygiene on a fixed denture. Our expert hygienist will assist you throughout the process and make sure you know the correct method of flossing your teeth.
- Mouthwash – Rinse your mouth with mouthwash every day to maintain efficiency in having clean teeth. You can use over-the-counter mouthwash or have your dentist prescribe a mouthwash for you.
